How do I end the first part of a book and introduce the second?
How do I end a book if I'm not sure whether I'm going to write a second part and how do I introduce the second part well?
So, I had an idea at the beginning of volume two that might have been something like "Now, five years after (e.g. the death of…)." or "I was just on my way to the grave. It's been five years now since…" or something similar. Is that good?
So it doesn't have to be about death, I'd be happy without death, but I can't think of any other examples…
You can start with a prologue. And because of the end of the first book: you can somehow end it excitingly like (not related to your) “I saw flame. Everything burned but I was satisfied” or just happy ending. And secondly, as said prologue or you start in like “When I woke up I saw the blue sky”
Okay, thanks
And thanks also for the answers to the other questions, don’t want to write extra for everyone now
I think “for five years it’s already been that…” well, as a reader, you have a timeline and again a possibly refreshed memory, as you can repeat well important key points of the first band (no matter if it was now a death or not). I would end the first band like Bellamadeleine.
I always write independent stories.
That means that part I tells a story and part II as well. Only from the history they belong together, because what happens in I is relevant to II.
So… write I as if the story was alone. Think about what should happen in Part II. Then write a new story.
I find this much more beautiful because more closed. Besides, I can get more on the 2. Partly happy when I was good – a second good story? ๐ I am not a friend of several books, because many things simply seem long-drawn – and often frightened not to begin.
I realize I’m tired, but maybe you can start with it. ๐
Yes, thank you
The example with the โI was just on the way to the graveโ sounds good. Where I wouldn’t reveal directly at the beginning, about what exactly it is related to the first part if you know what I mean.
In the first book, I would just leave an open end that if you write a second, you can join it and if not, then it will remain open to the reader, that is so in many stories:)
Remember the five years in the title and start a new story.
Example:
Alexandre Dumas
Also good idea, thank you
