How do I draw in Goodnotes?

It sounds like the “View Mode” is activated in GoodNotes, which prevents editing with the pen or finger. There are a few things you can check to get back to the editing mode:

1. Enable processing mode:

• When you open a document, make sure you are in the right mode. Below on the screen you should see different tools in the middle (stift, text, eraser etc.). If the pen or eraser is gray or not selectable, it might be that you are in “View Mode”.
• Tap the pin icon (or another tool) to switch to the editing mode.

1. Check the “Write Protection” (View-Only Mode):

• If you have opened a document from a cloud or from another device, it might be in write protection mode. In this case, you cannot draw or write directly on it.
• You can try to “copy” or “ duplicate” the document so you have a editable version.

• Sometimes it helps to complete and restart the app. Double-click on the Home button (or tap newer iPads up) and wipe the GoodNotes app up to close it. Open them again.

• Make sure your Apple Pencil is connected and charged correctly. Sometimes it could also help to reconnect the pencil (just remove from the Bluetooth list and connect it again).

• Make sure that both the GoodNotes app and your iPad are updated to the latest versions. An update could fix existing errors.
