How do I access my external hard drive?

Hello,

I inherited an external hard drive. I can play the content (movies) on my TV.

When I connect the hard drive to the PC, it isn't recognized. I want to continue using the drive for the PC.

What can I do?

Thanks for further information.

How exactly did you connect the plate internally? Must be a narrower Sata data cable and a wider power cable.

Change the Sata port on the MB. And see if the plate appears in the BIOS/UEFI.

Update: Was not an ingenious answer, had not consistently read the question.

Then you have to go to disk management and format the hard drive, but then the movies are gone

Hmmm, if this is not detected, it cannot format it either.

yet, data carriers that are not displayed in the Explorer are displayed in the disk management, since only those that are also present in an admissible format are displayed here.

Maybe simple drive letters are enough to forgive… 😉

Unprobably. TV format the disks normally not in NTFS

Very possible, yes

Or also on Windows zB EaseUS Partition Master

If so, diskpart might see more.

So in the data carrier administration it should definitely be recognized as RAW or the like.

Interesting would now be to know if the BIOS recognizes it at the start

Right, too, yes… urgently need to make new coffee 😉 so I can read better… But it’s funny that the record isn’t recognized at all.

It’s ne external hard drive. What’s wrong with that?

That’s true, but apparently she doesn’t show up. Therefore, tap into installation errors.

Yes, but only in disk management and not in Explorer

Then she should appear at least as an RAW board. Drive letter was also stupid of me, which is not there, you can’t change…

Oh, okay if he’s confirmed. Okay…

There are hard drives that have a special format. If you format it, you can use it normally. What TV manufacturer?

First check the SMART values (e.g. with Crystal DiskInfo) and if these are OK, try the data with DMDE (https://dmde.com) to save!

If not, report with an answer and I’ll tell you what you can try…

Windows doesn’t even see the plate… maybe at least with diskpart?

Sorry, I just read. Then insert HDD into another housing (chance that helps = 10% or less) or from the data recovery laboratory or the garbage can.

It has a reason why Windows does not see the HDD and has what to do with instability or an adult hardware deficient… There it takes hardware that can handle unstable plates.

e.g. https://multi-com.eu/,daten,id_pr,22704,key,deepspar-usb-stabilizer.html

Only this is hardly paying off for your one-time application and if that is not instability, it is a hardware or firmware extract you need other tools…

The USB stat may still help an ambitious PC technician 10-20% of the data recovery he would otherwise have to outsource but for a private person it makes no sense.

Every serious lab would be cheaper.

Here it is only about the data – the plate is in any case through and no longer usable… The question is now only whether you need the data and whether these are some money.

Either the cable is broken or there is another fault.

Can the function of USB slots be ensured?

If all knits tear, expand hard drive from the housing and try to connect via SATa. If that doesn’t work, the plate is probably broken.

It should be possible to format the plate on the PC. You lose the films. Look at all the movies and then format the record.

It’s just losing the movies. The plate must be formatted for use on the Pc. All content is deleted as I said!

The TVs have their own format that the PC does not know.

If the disk management does not recognize the HDD, it is a case for a professional data savior (price from 199 EUR) or for the garbage can!

One could only try to disassemble the housing and to install the HDD in another housing. If it’s a WD Elements / Passport, it doesn’t work!

Mh, then I’m not…

Of course you are. Save data, format disk, copy data back to disk…
