…. a galvanic cell, also known as a full pocket cell, converts chemical energy into electrical energy. It consists of two different metals which serve as electrodes and which are immersed in electrolyte solutions. These metals are separated by an electrolyte, but connected by a salt web or a porous membrane, which allows the ion flow between the half cells, while the direct flow of electrons is prevented.

Here is a Daniell Element:

Here are the basic steps of how a galvanic cell works:

Oxidation and reduction: A redox reaction takes place in each half cell. At the anode, oxidation (depletion of electrons) takes place, while at the cathode a reduction (absorption of electrons) takes place.

Electron flow: The oxidation reaction at the anode releases electrons which flow through an external circuit to the cathode where the reduction takes place. This flow of electrons generates an electrical current.

Ion flow: In order to preserve the charge neutrality, ions migrate through the salt web or the porous membrane. cations move to the cathode and anions to the anode.

Power generation: The movement of electrons in the external circuit can be used to perform work, for example to illuminate a light bulb or to operate a device.

The galvanic cell releases electrical energy until the reactive substances are consumed or the chemical equilibrium is reached.

Hope that’s a little superb to understand.

A voltage is formed as a difference between two different chemical potentials.
