How can you fix holes in socks (heels) instead of darning them like in the old days?

I have several beautiful Norwegian socks, but with certain wear and tear

However, it occasionally happens that a hole forms in the heel area.

I think the socks are too precious, but you can’t ignore the holes either, because

they get bigger. Plugging is possible for smaller holes, but there is no

any kind of fabric that can be ironed on, glued on or

can be attached in some other way and is then connected to the fabric in such a way that it holds?

Are those wool socks? You can’t iron anything, even in synthetics, that would melt. Otherwise it’s bad, so my experience. Can you knit? If it’s a big hole, you might miss the part that’s missing. Otherwise, look at YouTube, there are some videos on the theme flick/spotting holes in a creative way. Maybe there’s something you can do.

That’s what I thought about Norwegersovken. Nevertheless, I think that patches would not hold on to such a damaged spot. But maybe there are tips on YouTube or something…
