My problem is: Whenever I download a new app on my phone, it automatically downloads to my iPad. Does anyone know how I can disable this setting? It's really annoying after a while.

you can just turn it off. Go on your iPad the Settingsthen on App Store (or earlier: iTunes & App Store). Here you will find the option Automatic downloads. Switch the switch Apps from – then newly loaded apps are no longer automatically transferred to your iPad.

Yes, you can disable the automatic charging of apps on iPad. Go to the settings and then to the App Store, as you will find the Automatic Downloads section. Since simply turn off the green button behind app downloads and they are no longer loaded onto your iPad.
And yes, you can simply delete the apps on your iPad, they will not be deleted on your iPhone.
