How can I stop my cat from biting?
Dear people,
I've had a new kitten for two weeks now, and she's very active, loves to play, and loves to cuddle. The first few nights, she couldn't sleep alone and would lie next to me. She's really affectionate and never wants to be alone.
Whenever I wake up, I pet her, and she would bite me lightly every now and then. It wasn't a problem at first because it was gentle and slow, but now she's biting harder and more often. I don't know if it's a sign of play or if she's serious. Still, I want to break her of that habit because it's starting to hurt.
My question would be why does she do that and how can I get her to stop?
Thanks in advance.
Mine always did. Especially in the first months when she was still small. Cracking, biting… Clearly a second cat would definitely help, but if that doesn’t happen, there are other possibilities. I personally have always given mine a clear “no”, then they have looked at me, understood it and stopped it. Don’t scream or beat, the tone is enough for the animal to understand it. If this doesn’t work on your own, you can also gently push it away with your hand from where it bites. But after my experience always say no so that it is understandable for them and she doesn’t just think what she’s pushing me away now. Cats are smarter than you think. After a while, she should have understood. Maybe even reward with a treat if they suppress the biting from themselves.
This is a normal behavior for a cat, so get what you want to pamper her is a chat what cats usually do to each other, so they play.
Ideally, you’ll get an assimilated fellow, best with the same sex, because without fellows you shouldn’t hold cats if you want to avoid psychological problems later with the cat.
(So I’ve at least read out that you only have a cat.)
As soon as a suitable artefact is there, it gets rough and played with it and it will no longer have the need to get up with you, because it now does what kittens do and as a person you cannot do it.
