How can I connect two monitors to my laptop?
I only have one HDMI port and one HDMI splitter
but monitor 1 shows the same as monitor 2 and is not recognized as a third screen by windows 11:

This doesn't work with just one signal either.
To do this, you need either a USB-C port or a docking station, which unfortunately aren't exactly cheap.
I think I already have a USB-C port next to the HDMI cable, which is small and round.
USB-C is always marked with a lightning bolt.
Read this article carefully: https://www.stern.de/digital/technik/usb-c-monitor–drei-geeignete-monitore-fuer-office–gaming-und-buero-30552624.html
The flash is only there if it is a Thunderbolt port.
That doesn't work either. The splitter doubles the signal at the port, but it doesn't allow for individual display. For that, you'd have to use a USB-HDMI adapter and connect the second external one to it.
IF his laptop can do that.
Okay, I'll give it a try.
An HDMI splitter also just doubles the signal – you will always see the same thing on both monitors.
Does your laptop have another graphics output? Can it, by any chance, output video signals via USB-C (DP Alt Mode)?
I don't know. How can I tell?
Read the datasheet
It seems like it has USB-C.
USB-C alone is not enough. It must support DP Alt Mode.
otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it in the original answer…
Oh right?
Try a different connection
Open the right tab and select the second one from the top.
I've already done that; both show an extension, but both are the same extension. Thanks anyway.
A splitter only duplicates the signal, there's no need for a new monitor. You can set it up however you like.
