How can I book additional luggage?

I tried to add baggage to my British Airways flight, but the following message appears: "Unfortunately, excess baggage cannot be added for this route." Can I still add baggage on-board or through another means? The flight isn't for another month, so I'm wondering why I can't change my baggage selection.

British Airways has a very good telephone customer service. I'd call and see if you can handle it by phone. Sometimes there are problems with the website as it helps to call. Or they can explain why it is not possible to book.
I would not recommend to wait until check in.
