Is the Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC 4th Generation a good choice?
Hi,
There's a Honda Prelude in my neighborhood, as described in the title. I'll be 18 in a few months and am considering buying the car from the owner. It's not in perfect condition, and I don't yet know how many miles it has on it. The paint is slightly chipped in one spot on the roof, and the center cap is missing from one of the rims. I couldn't see any rust from the outside.
My question is, is the car reliable and doesn't cause too many problems? Is it suitable as a first car? What's the availability of spare parts like? How much do you estimate it to be worth if it has about 150,000 to 200,000 km on it.
Just for comparison, if it's not that one, it will be an Audi TT 8J 2.0l 220 hp, is the Honda more expensive or cheaper to maintain?
I didn't take any good pictures, just one or two to figure out exactly which model it is. I was too stupid to take a close look at someone else's car.
Buy now!!!
But under one condition: it must NOT have the prone rear wheel steering, there is no pig left to know and the repair costs are uncalculated.
However, the prelude is just a youngtimer, and that means always racing after spare parts and completely covered prices, e.g. for a dashboard, an airbag or an engine control unit.
For pure heating, the TT is clearly the better car, parts are everywhere.
For this, the Prelude breathes auto history, you cannot compare it.
what can I imagine for cost monthly for the maintenance of the car? So I realize that most of the things are “single” and thus are not monthly, but sometimes more general monthly average, you can say something about what
How is such a side for spare parts? https://www.kfzteile24.de/replacement parts?ktypnr=4710
Well of course, but specific spare parts such as exhaust manifold, engine control unit, camshaft, tank indicator, dashboard you will never find here
because I don’t depend on a car I think I’m buying it and taking problems in
You just don’t know what’s going to happen before, it’s completely incalculable. The car can be a single nightmare or run the next 10 years without any problems, nobody knows that before.
Either I find the car horny and buy problems or I’ll buy something else.
would you have recommended the car in spite of that or is that a tochalgkriterium? And do I get the typical wear parts that you regularly need (no idea what there is everything) anyway so and to humane trips? and please go back to the question with the maintenance costs
The prelude is already a nice car but it is also old, you can’t forget that….that means repairs are quite likely….
As the state is, one cannot see on the basis of the images…
With the prelude you will certainly be happier than with the vulnerable TTs…. 😉
Whether you’re a beginner, it depends on you, there are reasonable riders and there are those who aren’t…… 🙂 they’ll be both expensive as beginners…
The fact that you tell me about the TT surprises me very much I have to admit is TTs susceptible? According to our experience, TTs are with the best cars ever, my grandpa drove his TT 400 tkm and had as good as no problems. If I understand that correctly you would say that both cars are more unsuitable for young drivers?
Well, the oil scraping rings are Murks or those, but were “improved” in later years of construction…. The control chain as always has a bad theme, which is why later years of construction have dents again…. Steering gear problems, DSG problems (if one is to be done). If I had the choice, I would rather go to the Honda….if he’s still okay…. 🙂
Okay, thanks for the info
I wouldn’t recommend a sports car.
Each part is larger and much more expensive than with a smaller motor.
Oh and gasoline, they need a lot more. With modern vehicles almost twice. And that at a liter price of about 2 euros, which it will cost again from tomorrow?
Bzw. I’ve already thought about it and moved from a 2.0 turbo to a 2.0 full hybrid, which now consumes only half of the old one.
I see your point but the car I have for fun and not because I absolutely need it, so fuel costs are rather aside for buying
I have 10000 € available for the purchase of the car and will secure it full-cascow, it should make up something, not only for the eye but also on the highway (no I don’t want to drive illegal road races),
That’s why it’s about the 180 ps at least, which car would you recommend? (Audi A3/4/5 I’ve already thought about what do you think of them?)
So you’d say tt and prelude are cuckold if I don’t have any money to throw out?
But if only with fresh TÜV and service. TÜV is still running this year. ….someone look what he costs in maintenance otherwise insure as a second car over parents
I had thought too, but you get a good idea even if that’s really a shame
So the prelude is a really nice car. You have great taste. This is a BB1 with H22A2 engine. He’s got 185ps. The cockpit is still very nice to look at. In japan there was the car also with a fully digital tacho.
The kilometers are at Hondas when they were well maintained only a number on the tacho. 350,000km are nothing yet.
Parts will be difficult after all there was the prelude from 1992 to 1994. Yours is the Vorfacelift. The lacquer is the clear lacquer that leaves after almost 30 years. You will find grate especially at the threshold ends, wheel runs and in the trunk when the runs of the sliding roof are blocked. In general, however, the prelude will be the better car compared to the moony TT, which, unlike the prelude, looks just a bump.
The rims are not original but you can buy a hubbcap. By the way, he has 4×114.3 holes.
Since these cars already have collector status, the price on the market would be in good technical condition at about 6500€. Do not change with BB3 or BB2 if you are looking.
Does he have automatic, tempomat, air conditioning leather or 4ws?
is a switch and on the rest I have not yet taken care of so accurately, so if something is broken or I need wear parts I have a real problem which makes the car not worthwhile?
There is no longer the prelude so often. If you need parts, you need to ask in different forums or Facebook groups or buy parts from the accessories at Ebay. As for example welding sheets or fenders, engine hoods. And yet it’s worth pay.
About 7.5 to 8 and 12+ at 180
If you’re driving the 140 like that, you know what he’s got for and what looks like at 180?
It can rotate relatively high. Turn around the 8000. Then you will also drive 220+. If you’re riding under VTec at 4100 you’re on the road with a good 140. I’ve done more of my Honda’s big driving from 350 to 600km. Nothing happened.
So you’d say if the prelude is in good condition and I get it for 6 to 7k at under 200 tkm I’ll have fun with it? I’ve read that he’s incapable of being so high, what do you think?
Are the spare parts rare or very expensive?
I believe a relatively important marginal note is the fact that I am buying the car for fun and not dependent on it, i.e. I drive to work by train and also come across all with the public
If I want to drive from Berlin to Hessen by car, it won’t just break up with me?
I believe that young men up to 5 years of driving practice should not drive cars with more than 50 hp and faster than 130.
There are too many dead.
And women should be banned.
They’re safer at age.
Haha 50 hp. With what today’s cars weigh, it should be at least 100 to come forward normally.
What do you understand under “normal”?
will I go kart or drive car?
Maybe you should practice it first.
That’s nice.
Then stay there. I don’t want to overwhelm your learning process.
So.
It doesn’t matter that even small cars have at least 75 hp today and hardly get away from the spot.
And why should I try it now with an e-mobile (whatever this is). I have a proper vehicle.
And you mean that a car with 50 hp has trouble getting to 50 km/h and can’t sort in? Then you should try with an e-mobile.
that you do not stop traffic because you have to go through the corridors 1-3 completely at the traffic lights to get to 50 things
Or quickly enough to get onto the highway.
I’m not starting to get over quickly.
Let’s go. If arguments of reason do not count, you must make your own experiences.
I drive very much car, short/long stretch, inside/outside (Berlin city) with large and small cars and among other things also the 400 hp car of my father, in the driving school I also drove 180 hp, I see absolutely no problem behind buying a car with strong motorization, so once I am even safer/better on the road with more hp, as I feel more comfortable with it
And whoever thinks to be able to go to the limits with his Boliden lands quickly in front of the tree.

Of course, who has shots before driving around with 40km/h does not build accidents.
You have a good taste. Depending on the situation you will have to count from 5,000 euros. Unless the seller has no idea.
From the engine, the KM, you can’t do much wrong. He can also have a few beauty spots with nearly 30 years.
I’d advise you if he’s on sale, just drive to the next Honda dealer and let him take a closer look. It should be worth 50-100 euros.
In any case, the Honda is the better choice for TT.
Even if the TT is 10 to 20 years new? And you mean drive to the dealer before I paid him, right?
Of course, before you buy it (written purchase contract) and pay.
Right, your mechanic’s looking over there. The Honda engineer knows the problems that can occur.
Do you think the people of Honda have on it or can I let our mechanic look at it?
Have you discussed with the owner or will you ring there and say “I want to buy your car”?
The insurance may be quite high for a starter by car.
That’s exactly what I’m going to do, the car is no longer driven and that’s why I think the owner might be willing to leave his car, the more I read about the car, so the TT will be better for me while the TT in shopping will probably cost twice the prelude
So if the owner wanted to sell it, it would be gone or stand in mobile.
It’s probably a lover’s vehicle because it’s so rare and it’s been a long time. And then you can pay a very “fair” price.
So would you rather recommend the TT? I am also uncertain whether I have grown the challenge of an over 20 year old car and the cost can be associated with it and ready to save the comfort of an Audi
but the Honda fascinates me every time I pass or run, such a beautiful car
Meega brudiiii
Sweetheart!
