Holiday in Trieste?

I'd like to go on a beach holiday in Italy at the end of July – two adults and a 13-year-old child. We'll be driving from southeast Germany, and Trieste doesn't seem that far away. Do you have any experience or suggestions?

Drive to Croatia, Istria, not to Italy. In Croatia you come to the beach at any time. In Italy, the stand is mostly privately owned. In addition, the water in Istria is cleaner.

drive only a few km further, and you are in Istria – where the Triestinians (short) make holiday…

I was in Trieste in September. It is a beautiful city and certainly worth a visit, but not directly for a bathing holiday.

North of Trieste there are Italian bathing resorts, but they are more expensive than the alternative:

I'd go a bit further to Slovenia or Croatia.

This is exactly the time when Italy makes summer holidays. It is especially on the Adriatic, totally full and extremely expensive.

Trieste is a great city, but for a bathing holiday it seems to be the wrong place.
You'd rather go on a little bit.
