Hobby as a profession vs. profession for the hobby?
Hello you busy writers,
I have a question regarding my future career aspirations.
I'm about to graduate from high school, and since I love literature, I'd really like to study literature, but I'm kind of worried that I won't be able to find a job in the field long-term. Of course, passion and skills are paramount, but a degree should bring me an above-average salary for the effort I've put in.
So I thought I would study something I didn't enjoy as much, like law, and use the income to finance my passions.
If you compare both options, most people would choose the course that is more fun, but considering the uncertain future for young people like me, I have to weigh up what is best for me.
What is your opinion on this?
The decision between pursuing a passion and choosing a potentially safer but less beloved career path is not easy. Here are some points you might consider:

It is important that your decision reflects your personal values, interests and long-term goals. Sometimes it means finding a central path that takes into account both your passions and involves practical considerations regarding professional and financial security. Studying is not only an investment in your professional future, but also in your personal development and satisfaction.
It's very difficult. My father always told me to learn a job that makes you fun. Today he says learn a profession where you earn enough money to have fun in your spare time.
Times have changed drastically in Germany and, accordingly, you have to prisorate your profession even more after the income.
I stand in front of the same task and prioritize to be honest about the money I would earn because I can easily live my hobby in my spare time.
Never study what you don't like and what you don't care. You'll find a job that interests you and where you deserve.
If there is no or no need for the job market for the hobby and you have to fear that you will have to earn your living as a taxi driver, then it makes sense to separate hobby and profession.
Literature can also be used very well in leisure.
For the profession with which one wants to earn a living, one should better choose a profession for which there is enough need for the labor market and good, as safe as possible, merit prospects.
