Results for HIV/AIDS in Germany

  • In Germany, around 96,700 people lived with HIV at the end of 2023.

In a single unprotected sexual contact, the HIV risk is statistically very low. It increases with the frequency of unprotected contacts. Basically, if you had a risk or are unsure, you should be advised and, if necessary, make an HIV test.

As regards HIV, there is a statutory, non-named reporting obligation in Germany under the Infection Protection Act. I.e. HIV positive results are reported anonymously to the RKI by the bodies responsible for reporting (laborator, doctors).
