Herbal schnapps for colic?
Hello, my dears,
I've often heard from people around me that if a horse has colic, you can give it herbal schnapps as a "first aid" measure—especially if you don't have any Colosan on hand.
Now I wanted to ask if this is common practice and if it's possible to do it? And if it's even useful.
Best regards
Yes, you can do and yes, can help. But should be used only in emergency. Colosan should always be ready to handle, belongs to every stable apotheke.
Thank you :
No.
movement.
and if not just summer, a sweat blanket.
the same as with the schnapps you can hear from stakrem coffee again and again. also that is nonsense.
Half a liter can suffice for a horse for fatal alcohol poisoning with liver and circulation failure.
until the veterinarian arrives. only exception: the horse wants to drink water. coliked horses usually sweat heavily. the absorption of water prevents any life-threatening dehydration.
often the veterinarian puts a stomach probe and pumps the skin or gives paraffin.
snaps and coffee lead to a high risk of injury to the skin of the stomach during this process.
In absolute emergency, yes. However, I would rather tap on movement and wait for the veterinarian. At least not just in there are enough other things that help.
There’s no schnapps. Point. I’d be surprised if it tastes the horse.
Whether it tastes or not, is not relevant in the case. Normally you do not give a liquor/alcohol. A colic is often about life and death and the fact that the schnapps can actually help in emergency.
Thank you :
Yes, this helps, but should only be used in emergency if the arrival of the veterinarian is delayed
Thank you :
Sure,
also cold coffee can help, by the way, only who already has cold coffee if you need it 🙂
