You don’t have to. But it can be that your savings bank will cancel your previous account.

If it is not too much effort, use the opportunity to leave the savings bank. They have bad conditions and are far too expensive for account management and other services. There are good online banks that don’t take any or hardly any account fees and you can still withdraw money from many machines. You just have to be on the go online, but that shouldn’t be a problem with you.

The few euros for the account would be worth having a contact person on site. Online bank would not be an alternative for me.

There is no duty to the current account. Generally, it makes sense to have one so that you can receive money be it pay or pocket money.

Now the question is what “the real one” should be and what you currently have.

For example, if you have a youth giro so far and you want to point out that you will now be converted to the adult version because no more pupils/student/Azubi can not be avoided if you no longer meet the requirements for the youth account. You have to change or go.

Take a look at what you currently have at the bank accounts and what exactly the product you want from you now.

You can change the bank if your stock is not good.
