Homesick? Student exchange?

Hello!

I have to decide soon whether I want to participate in my school's 17-day exchange program (it takes place in October 2024). We'll fly to Georgia, USA, stay there for 12 days, and then drive to Nashville. From there, we'll fly home after 5 days.

My problem now is that I sometimes get really homesick. My problem isn't even being there, but rather flying. When I'm there, I can distract myself, spend time with my host family, and so on, but the incredibly long flight and the struggle to leave in general are a real struggle.

Do you have any tips? Should I do it anyway, and what should I do if I get homesick while I'm there? After all, you can't just fly away from America that quickly.
And do you happen to know if you can meet your host family beforehand via Skype or something? I think I'd feel safer then than if I just flew off on a whim.

It’s really nice that you have such a good relationship with your family, and that’s why you’re getting a homeache. But you’re sure that you’re very limited. It’s still a year to try to think more often than you’re already there that trains your brain 😉. There’s no reception in the plane and you can’t make calls, sorry. But you can call shortly before and then enjoy the flight 🖖
