HDD making scratching noises?

I know this isn't a good idea and I should get a new hard drive before it's too late, but how do I transfer the data exactly to the other drive? Is there anything I need to do, since I've never done this before?

A scratching hard drive has a (starting) physical damage and should not be used more productively.

If you still have access and only a handful of files are important, then copy them to another disk as soon as possible, because a complete cloning of the “front” can begin to lead to a fatal or more serious defect.

Plan B would then of course be a professional laboratory for data recovery.

Depends on how strong they are.

If you have two connections. mirror new and old purely un mdit a software. Otherwise simply mirror zb onto an external one and then back to the new one. If it is your main hard drive with operating system, you need to use an operating system from the USB live (zb Ubuntu). For mirroring there is software

Otherwise, you should exchange timely. You can determine the condition of your hard disk with smart if your disk supports it

Would create a new one as soon as possible. Would just say this as a remote diagnosis, the reading head scratches on the plate.

That makes a HDD scratch noise is actually normal… Make my records even if they’re still quite new. If you can just buy a new record, then clone it with Acronis. Can also buy extra HDD docks where you can push the old one in the back and then put the new one in the front. Don’t eat the world.

Can also test the HDD with Crystaldiskinfo.
