HDD is used during installation even if the game is installed on SSD?
Hello everyone, I just updated games on Steam and, after downloading the files, noticed that the installation was running at around 550 Mbps. I was wondering if my SSD was even being fully utilized, or why it was so low (my M.2 SSD should have 3.5 GB/s). So I went into the task manager and saw that the SSD was at 0% usage, but the HDD was at 100%, even though all the games were installed on my SSD. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Steam is a bit chaotic about this.
The problem is probably related to download cache. Steam blows down to your slow HDD and then copies it over to the fast SSD. and no, you can’t manually select the download cache that automatically decides steam.
Possible solutions:
In other words: You are disappointed that the game does not have to load or load your computer’s hardware to its limits. 🤷
Well, my HDD will be fully burdened why always and my SSD can’t afford much more. The updates last so much longer than they would normally do. The HDD shouldn’t be used at all because, as I said, no games or games. Steam installed on it… according to my understanding, there should be a mistake
Your mistake is that the HDD would be burdened by the game or by the game. That should not be the case.
By the way: You will only reach the full NVME capacity if you constantly scoop TByte-wise data back and forth.
Otherwise, you will not be able to feel a big difference to standard SATA SSDs.
