HDD in the trash or repairable?

Hello,

I removed the Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1TB HDD from my PlayStation because it had been making clicking noises lately and wasn't working properly anymore. I opened the HDD and noticed that the pins on the reader, or whatever it is, were bent.

I urgently need an answer, I'm really at a loss

Since the hard drive with clicking sounds – and as you say bent head straps with the fine read/write heads at the tips – has probably also had massive surface damage before it was opened, I basically doubt the sensuality and cost-relation of a professional data recovery in a clean room laboratory.

Due to the resulting dust contamination as well as the manipulations in the interior (for example, the parking ramp already lacks the image) the effort would have increased further immensely.

It might be repairable in the rather medium to high four-digit range if you need to know yourself. Depending on which data were stored on it (e.g. access data), the disposal via the normal garbage is nevertheless risky because it could get into “false fingers”. No big risk, but you should be aware.

An open hard drive will never run properly again, get a new one.

Data weatherers use clean rooms, goole times to headcrash.

So I wouldn’t throw them in the garbage personally, but to answer your question:

Yes, you need to buy a new hard drive.

Since I see on your picture that it is not dust-free with you, you have already “conterminated” your plate.

So get a new one.

By dismantling them in the way, you made them irreparable. HDDs are precision equipment with clean air inside, etc. Now the plate is quite sure special waste!

After you have opened the plate more than inconvenient, that thing is now scrap!

She’s looking totally dusty now. Apart from the fact that they don’t have protection and dust, Schmitz, come on.

You’ve got a bunch of junk and the data’s gone.

The writing head could have been repaired, but now dust on and in the plate is unusable
