Does my chicken have a chance of survival after a dog bite?
Hello everyone!
One of our chickens had an encounter with the neighbor's dog today. It now has a bite wound between its wings. We immediately went to the vet, even though it was Sunday. He roughly cleaned the wounds and stitched the skin together to keep the muscles in place. However, he's worried it'll all become infected… It's been given painkillers and antibiotics, and I'm supposed to come back tomorrow for a check-up and to get the medication.
Now Estelle is lying in a nesting area, separated from the others, and isn't moving. I've placed food and water within her sight.
What do you think? Does it even have a chance of survival? We don't want to torture her unnecessarily, and we're concerned about whether it even makes sense. What's the latest time she should eat or drink? And how can I tell if she's not eating or drinking because she's still scared, or if she's not eating because she's in pain and suffering?
I would really appreciate your advice and opinion!
The worried, still somewhat inexperienced chicken keeper Jessi
I don’t think anyone knows I’d wait till tomorrow and then ask the doctor again how he sees the chances
Aside from being nice to see how you care about chicken. Respect
Thank you Onokononk for the quick answer!
Yeah, I’ll go back to the vet tomorrow with our chicken and ask him again for advice.
Hi, Jessi, do good.
My sister has Seramas and the one hen has finally escaped the fox (in the middle of the Ruhr area..The red skirt comes from a park and then closed track)
My niece saw this, screamed loud, ran. Fox Haute, Pünktchen (the chicken) has a bite wound in the neck, 5cm diameter or so, up to the muscles skin and tissue is gone.
Not to sew, now there’s always silver cream on it so that it heals better.
The first 3 days the chicken was paralyzed, hardly moved, seemed to eat anything..My niece impregnated her with a pipette and sought soft food (worms, etc.).
The other chickens must not go to her, no excitement or rumbling
As I said, very strange first 3 days.
Meanwhile (about 10 days) it is more merciful, but still beaten and k.o.ig.
It’s gonna be okay.
The ‘will be munter’ was clear on behavior, she looked more, reacted to speech ..
Explanation: my niece(12) is very tricky with her chickens, who know together swing, cuddle, etc.
