Did the dentist make it worse?

Since Thursday evening I've had an infection in the space between one of my teeth, I think. My gums/space between them were sore. The dentist then put ointment on it but also hammered on both teeth with an instrument (probably to check whether the tooth was okay) BUT since then, or rather a day later, these exact teeth have been in terrible pain, I can't chew or talk much, it's been really painful since the dentist hammered on them. I have the feeling he made it worse. IBU + antibiotics hardly help. I was on call again today and he gave me a different antibiotic but as I said, I think the dentist made it worse in part, what do you think?
