Hard drive problem?

Hello, my WD SATA 1TB hard drive is displayed as a virtual storage device with a size of 2TB. I also no longer have access to it. It's displayed as an MBR disk.

I suspect there is a serious error.

In advance

Thank you for your answers

When it comes to data recovery, this is a case for a prof. lab. As soon as the size data is no longer correct, it’s time to get out of a firmware problem except you’d have cloned another disk on that disk or played around with a partition editor…

We make such data recovery by 299 in case of success when the firmware is affected.

Can the SMART values still be read with Crystal DiskInfo? SMART comes after the essential firmware parts and if the booting process of the plate comes up to SMART, you could still be lucky and can try data recovery yourself.

Well… then it comes to the displayed values!

To do this, you need to know that a plate reports to the system with an identification. In this case, the plate assigns model, serial number, capacity and supported modes (PIO, UDMA, etc.).

All these values are read out from the firmware. Therefore, a firmware problem is close when a plate suddenly delivers false values.

If the disk displays a correct size but the partition claims to be 2TB large, then you have played with a partition editor or with any other programs and changed the partition entries in the MBR or the GPT table.

Generally, the SMART values will tell you when there is time to replace them…
