Hamster/cage/aquarium?
Hello,
I would like to get a hamster in a few months and that's why I'm already researching the purchase, initial equipment, etc. My question is:
Can hamsters escape from an aquarium? Most aquariums don't have a lid or mesh at the top, so it would be open at the top. If I filled the aquarium with bedding, etc., and there was still about 5-10 cm of free space at the top, could it escape? Or do I need to buy a mesh net and close it off somehow. Thanks in advance, and have a good evening.
That’s why I have a terrarium that has a fixed perforated plate on top.
It is possible in itself, hamsters are not climbers or jumpers, or you should avoid climbing as falls are quite cool.
However, it is necessary to make sure that the aquarium is correspondingly large enough, these are very lauffy animals, since you should have a good 1qm floor area.
Yeah, so I was thinking of a 100×50×30 aquarium…Is that enough or must it be bigger?
no these are not even minimum dimensions. from 150-200 cm it becomes more animal-friendly.On too narrow space they can begin to rally.
Naja 1qm would be a floor area of 100×100 is therefore somewhat too small, for an animal-friendly attitude. If 100×50 = lengthxwidth is
My hamster lives in an open aquarium.

If you are skillful, you can build a grid yourself: 4 bars in the right length and then stack wire. Ready. They’re going through a net.
There’s a hamster easy to climb out or, in case of emergency, also jumping, do something on top (what air-permeable, like a grid) or get something more suitable like a nagerium

buy an aquarium from 150-200cm length. Then you can set it up very close to nature and hamster-friendly. Floors can become dangerous if they are too high.
So I have one with grid net on it (nagarium)
But even without grating, the small pups does not make it high on the glass walls
