Hamster runs away?

Good day dear ones,

I urgently need help as I'm a bit overwhelmed right now.

So, a few weeks ago I got Maya, a medium-sized female hamster.

Maya originally came to me only for foster care, but will now stay with me because she is extremely anxious and shy. And not everyone knows how to deal with that.

The problem I'm having right now is that Maya has run away. She jumped out of the hamster cage and is still trying to do so. I keep them in a species-appropriate manner and attach great importance to that, but I've only ever had dwarf hamsters (also in the same hamster cage), and this has never happened to me in 10 years of keeping hamsters. 🙁

She seems stressed to me, and I think that she demands more space as there are definitely a lot of activities available for her (60cm + 120cm + 60cm her current terrarium)

Despite this, I lack enough experience with medium hamsters, maybe you can help me!☹️

I would also be grateful if someone could tell me whether the terrarium is too small for her. She is my first medium-sized hamster.

best wishes, Kati <3

Hello?

The 100×50 recommended by animal welfare is really only absolute minimum. But, above all, Mittelhamster-Weibchen are very movement-friendly and marginalizing fast. They are only satisfied with 150, sometimes even from 200 cm in length.

And if I look at my 120×60 story where a dwarf lives, I find it too small. For a goldie then right.

Therefore, a greater margin would be advantageous 🙂

Of course. Good luck. If necessary, you can also assemble two Nagaria

I’m overwhelmed. I don’t want to subordinate anything to you, but it may be that you’re bored. Do you have food or various herbs in the cradle? Does she have any jobs?

Since you’ve written that you have a lot of experience and you’re putting great emphasis on art-friendly attitude, I assume there’s no problem. The next thing is that she really needs more space.

Good luck! -Maja
