Hamster bites/nibbles?

My hamster is quite curious and comes to me on his own. I usually leave him alone, but when I change the water, for example, he comes to my hand. I hold my hand still and let him sniff a bit. But then he starts biting, or rather nibbling. It's not that bad and it doesn't bleed, but it's very unpleasant. I try to hold my hand still and not pull away so he realizes it's no use. But he doesn't stop. What could be wrong?

Hello,

I simply assume that the enclosure is larger than 100×50 and there are no injuries or pain in the hamster. All this can also lead to bite behavior.

With you it sounds more like either:

Feed bite: The hamster will test your hand if it is edible. Be it out of general curiosity, obsession, because you always give out your hand treats and he connects fingers to eating or because you smell like food. Some hamsters like to nail on their finger and it’s hard to spoil it. It helps always wash hands without soap or with odour-neutral soap, rub with litter and place the flat hand in the litter with perhaps less popular treats. It would also be possible, of course, to nail the hamster on his hand for as long as he realizes that it does not bring anything. Is, of course, painful sometime

or

– Gier: if you turn his favorite snack out of your hand and the hamster is very greedy that he falls on his hand, then it can come to bad bites because he also catches his finger with the snack. Unconscious of course. Here also only helps to keep hands odour-neutral, rub with litter and place less popular treats on the surface, while the so greedy awaited food is scattered in the litter.

After your description, I’d rather write first.

Greetings:)
