Graphics card chip burned?
Good Morning,
Maybe someone here has seen something like this before. I bought a used graphics card, a GTX 1660 Ti from Gigabyte. Yesterday I took it apart to clean the fans and heatsink and to apply new thermal paste. I noticed that the old thermal paste had dried really hard, which I've never seen before, and the copper core was literally burned black. I could only soak it all in isopropanol and gently scrubbing it off. The circuit board has even tarnished all around the RAM modules, turning blue from the heat. My question is, how hot does it have to get for something like this to happen? Should I be worried or can it happen sometimes? Should I take it back to the dealer? It's working fine and the stress test didn't show anything. I just don't want it to explode in my face later and I'll have to buy a new one.
Hello,
they usually hold over 200 degrees.
If the heat-conducting paste and pads no longer do their work,
then it comes to heat development.
But these are usually “only” the voltage regulators.
This has been overclocked, over a longer period.
Take a good thermal paste and very soft pads or plaster.
If she runs then you don’t have any reason to change her.
Unless it was offered as “refurbished”.

Thanks for the answer 🙂
She’s running, there’s your answer
and yes chips discolor with time, that is normal
GPUs usually thrive from 105°C, as a directive
Jo just wanted to have a second opinion on this. Because I’ve never seen hard and cuminy WLP in shape. Thanks for the answer 🙂
Hi.
If you buy a used Graka, you must of course consider that she already had a life before.
Why would the dealer take it back, she’s running, got the Stesstest, you’ve broken it up.
Wwn her running, and you waited well.
At my old 1060, I’m never grappling to the idea to disassemble them. She was converted into an old computer and finished. At some point they’re too old, then you buy a new one.
Thanks for the answer 🙂
