The state – scissors are already quite apart at Golf 4.
The models SU 2002 are better equipped (more airbags e.g.) have completely new deficiencies (water break in the doors, empty driver seats, defective in the ZV, also the chassis became worse after 2002) than the models before 2002.
Engines:
1.4 L 16V. Frequently has problems with piston tippers and throttle flap
1.6 L SR (8 valves) Reliable and strong. Drinks much (8,5-9 liters/100Km)
1.6 L FSI: Finger way! First VW Gasoline Direct Injector with Unreleased SW Errors! Needs SuperPlus!
Note: The Golf 4 petrol drivers have an E10 release (except FSI). Nevertheless, it is only recommended to refuel Super95. (E10: More consumption, less performance, bad jumping)
Important:
Look that the air conditioning is 100% working and very cool. Otherwise you’ll like to get 800€ for the air conditioning repair. Do not buy golf 4 without air conditioning (unless you are used to Southern and Heat)
You can find a lot of information on the model care of the Golf 4 at Michael on the page:

In general, even so “old” cars are not bad, I drive a Mercedes C180, which is more than 20 years old and I am very satisfied ——> but the Golf 4 itself is not necessarily a first choice. He had already as a new vehicle various quality problems discussed in the press at the time and with the years tends to convince various annoying mistakes and defects – and also of the motors nobody can really convince; the 75-PS gasoline tends to high oil consumption, the other gasoline is very thirsty in proportion, the question for SDI and TDI is already lacking in the fact that they were already many drivers.
I would honestly not buy golf 4 anymore and also no longer recommend it, especially since it is often too expensive in terms of price and age. One with 80,000 kilometers… I don’t know. A friend of mine had bought himself as a pensioner car years ago and had to replace everything possible at the end, because he had the first tires, the first toothed belts and the first spark plugs, etc. and had never experienced a customer service for ever.

If you don’t like a Opel Corsa, it doesn’t have to be, but there are certain cars that are significantly better than the Golf 4, which looks timeless, is comfortably feathered and has a beautiful interior, but unfortunately comes from the time when the “VW quality” has certainly not been the optimum. Be sure to tell you, there is a compromise that everyone is satisfied with 🙂
Either pay or be grateful that parents think of security and co. Your parents are primarily concerned with other aspects and I can understand them. Do you understand? Therefore, find a compromise or buy it yourself. You can still screw rum when you get it yourself;)
