Golf 4 1.6 16v summer/winter intake hose?

Hey, I went to look at a Golf today and there was an intake hose missing from under the hood. The owner then said that it was a winter/summer intake hose and was only there in certain seasons…

Do you perhaps know what he meant?

I really don't know…

That's nonsense. If the engine needs something like that to run smoothly, something's wrong.

There used to be a summer-winter setting on the old carburetor engines.
