How to transport goldfish safely?
Hello.
In the next few days, we're going on vacation by car (about a five-hour drive) and will be staying there for a week. I've promised my son that he can take one of the goldfish from the aquarium with him. I've already bought a large (20L) glass jar with a pump, in which he can swim for the week (afterward, he'll go back to the large aquarium, of course). I'm just currently trying to figure out how to safely "pack" the goldfish so that it doesn't meet a sad end upon arrival. Do you have any ideas?
(Of course, it would be best not to take him with us, but it's very important to my son and he's really looking forward to it, and I promised…)
Here, animal welfare is clearly more important than a child who expresses an unrealistic desire and does not understand what consequences this has.
You don’t take a goldfish on vacation. This is a torment for the fish and probably it will not survive either, be it from stress or because the water is too warm and if the fish is dead, it is worse for your son than if he wasn’t there.
Children often have absurd desires and you do not do everything, even if it is obviously totally unreasonable, just because you are afraid to disappoint the child. There will be more things in life, which are unfortunately not feasible and where one has no choice but to say so. So this is a good opportunity to explain this to him.
If you do, I can guarantee you 95 percent that the fish will die. And you don’t want to do that to your son and only right to the fish.
The fish will not survive this, either the water will be too warm, it will die from stress or the water will tip. How should a 20 cm goldfish make you feel good in a 40 x 25 x 25 cm basin? And so that the water doesn’t tilt you’d need a pump that is greetings than 5 cm, and then the fish doesn’t even fit in.
So just tell your son that’s not possible. How can you promise that?
40×25×25 I never mentioned, there must be a confusion
The 40x25x25 would be 25 liters you only have a 20 liter vessel making worse
You don’t take a fish into your holiday if it’s important for an animal welfare. Good opportunity for the little one to learn that some things in life are both senseless and unfulfillable….
Hi.
I wouldn’t do that.
In the case of a very small fish like a Betta I can make it sensible but so….
If it must be, the ride is not a big problem, you can simply take a closed bucket with 1/3 water 2/3 air. Then you just have to be careful that the trunk is not very hot.
It’s animal quaelry that you’re doing, and he’s not going to live the whole thing.
Then tell your son that this is not possible. What’s so hard about it?
Dumme idea. He won’t survive and it would be a torment for the fish. Just for a child. I’m a riddle of how to get this idea at all.

Animal torture…
Yeah, get that idea.
Tupperdose? And on site in an aquarium.
It’s 15 to 20 cm long, the tupperware is too small
And you want to keep it in the 25 cm aquarium
And your 20-liter glass has something for him on holiday too.
Yes a 20-25cm fish in a 40x25x25 aquarium is clearly too small
Oh. I missed it. I think that’s too small.
He said a 20 liter aquarium.
The questioner, of course, takes along an aquarium adapted to the size of the fish. Sure. Animal torture is not supported here! Or am I wrong here @Timo777777?
