Anyone born in Germany has a tax ID.

Since 2007 or 2008, the Federal Central Office for Taxes (BZSt) has issued one to each newborn immediately after birth.

Persons who were born earlier and who had not yet had one at that time were also assigned and communicated via the postal route.

Your options:

  • ask your parents,
  • turn to the tax office responsible for your place of residence, or
  • request online at BZSt. This is then sent to your message address within four weeks (http://www.bzst.de/SiteGlobals/Contact forms/DE/Controller_IDNr/Mitteilung_IdNr/mitteilung_IdNr_node.html)

Ask your parents, they should have received your tax ID about 15 years ago.

Since 2007 or 2008 the tax ID in Germany has already been awarded for newborns, for older vintages it was awarded in 2008 and communicated by letter.

Yes, if you are born in Germany, then from birth (independent of which nationality you have). This is the first letter to receive parents in this country
