Girocard with Maestro function?
Hello. I recently received a new Girocard (EC card). The card now has the Maestro symbol. The old one had V-Pay on it. However, I read that the Maestro function has been discontinued as of July 1, 2023, and that no new cards with this function will be issued…
Can I use it to pay outside of the EU? Or do I need a credit card?
Maestro has not been hired, only many banks are no longer spending new cards.
However, some banks – including Deutsche Bank and Postbank – continue to issue Maestro cards, and they are expected to remain usable by 2027.
Thank you now. But can I use it abroad? Book to the hotel or something?
In principle, you can continue to use Maestro abroad for cash machines and for payment, but in hotel bookings I would not be sure – a credit card is often expected.
that’s how I read it. For hotel bookings and car rentals, a credit card is almost always required… pity
Probably this is a Debit Mastercard with a similar symbol and not a Maestro card.
But also with Maestro, you can often pay in the Union’s foreign country as far as this is unlocked.
No it is a girocard of my house bank with an IBAN etc
The previous payment systems Maestro and VPay are replaced by Debit Mastercard and Visa Debit. These can then be found next to the payment system Girocard on the maps of many banks.
