Germany – 0 points, why doesn't NDR learn from this?
A few days ago, NDR (North German Broadcasting Corporation) released its list of entries for the German Eurovision Song Contest. It's all boring stuff, and the "Cat Song" is the absolute cheekiest.
Why can't NDR find a musician out of 83.2 million Germans who will successfully represent us at the ESC?
Sometimes I have the impression that the NDR or the ÖR generally want to exclude the likelihood of a new victory as far as possible in order not to have to bear an ESC in the following year (although this would actually be voluntary anyway). For this reason, promising contributions for the pre-decision are already sorted out in advance and only a monotonous 08/15 frame are left to the pre-decision, in which the chances of winning at the ESC are definitely equal to zero. The lack of readiness of the NDR to learn from failure, and its ignorance of criticism, I cannot explain otherwise.
Greetings.
Amazing that well-known bands like Versengold have flew out before. Even if they had better songs, I would have liked the song https://youtu.be/G52Vs8opVnE
There were some more interesting songs, unfortunately, the last eight have remained the last.
Pre-decision 2023 was a big step in the right direction. About the 2024 selection, I can only finally judge when I have seen all the performances. They can only choose from the material that was previously submitted by the applicants. Finally, only a single contribution has to meet the nerve of the audience. We still have a chance of a Knallersong with the Wildcard. Let’s wait.
The German contributions have almost always been bad for some years, but they have been used to it. The last Germans I found really good at the ESC were Roger Cicero (2007) and before Max Mutzke (2004 … now he’s reappearing, let’s see) – Alex Swings Oscar Sings (2009) were also okay, but then it started with Lena’s arrogant English and her arrogant way, I only remember the appalling and embarrassing interview with Frank Elstner.
I think it’s going to be a place very far behind again this year, all of them are complaining again, and the NDR is getting sad, before next year another borer will be made.
What Germany represents at the ESC always sounds like music now sounds like when senior leaders from the NDR’s microcosm who are sitting in offices think they have to think as young people who have come around and find something very good. You should think about this with the NDR once you want to continue mixing.
The last year’s contribution was just bad and the Germans are not a people to take off cool and original pop music – there’s always something compelling about it, it doesn’t seem authentic. And that’s what happens to the listener. The cat song is being stirred, but at least I find it so stupid that it’s almost cool again.

You have to see it like this: Germany is, if you see it, a country of the hit, folk music and alpine brass/stube music as well as the Eurodance – and these are all not international mass-protected genres. Although it might be exciting how it would be if you were to send some Bavarian backwatering group from Hintertupfing with folk music, alphorn, accordion and costumes to the ESC, who in Bavarian voice some record text about the mountains or a shooting party and free beer … so what here (Franzl Lang doesn’t live anymore, that’s just a randomly selected song – I fell down straight “Schützen”.

I believe that this would have some chances because it is at least typical of German and one takes off the Germans that are associated with leather trousers, beer, wind music, sauerkraut and Sauerbraten, but not with pseudocool pop or jazz or electronically sounding songs about cats.
Some of the top acts and old stars do not give themselves to become the gods of the people before an international million audience and do not need to become themselves and others after numerous hits, echoes, golden tuning forks, golden records, etc. to prove anything else. I would certainly not want to, I would be a well-known musician and entertainer, that’s kind of embarrassing… while some student is probably still totally happy to be a short-term showstar and to be in the spotlight at the time, dreaming about the big career and then going back to university. You have to be honest.
Wow, the idea with alphorn winds at the ESC is super cool. There would certainly be more points than with the now selected songs. In the preselection this time was something unusual. It is probably meant to be as mass-fit as possible and has accordingly screened everything that is not 0-8-15.
You’re perfectly right, Max Mutzke is at least an interesting songwriter.
Max Mutzke also comes authentic ruber, I found him well in 2004. He was quite successful in my memory.
That with the alphorn winds would be about as curious as the Russian grandmothers a few years ago, which I found cool. I think they even baked on stage.
And so it would be with alphorn winds and similar curious appearances. You only remember Guildo Horn with his necks. Today still cult of a pleasant kind, when you have already experienced in 1998 and that came along at that time.
That was something completely different. The grandmothers are remembered. It was one of the last ECS ́s I saw.
It’s just scrap and they better stay home. 😤😤
It seems to be the good musicians who are no longer interested in the format.
