It is d / (8.5 cm) = (9 cm) / (8 cm).
Thus d = (8.5cm) * (9cm) / (8cm) = 9.56cm.
@Tunik has already delivered an answer. But I would still be interested in what your documents on the subject of "radiation rates" say and what is misleading to these statements.
Even the formulation of the question makes it worse…
