Geoblocking the first and zdf?

Geoblocking has actually been banned in the EU since 2018. However, Das Erste, ZDF, and other TV channels still block their internet offerings, meaning you can't watch their films in media libraries in other European countries.

You can get around this by installing a VPN, but these usually cost money.

The question now is why the broadcasters use geoblocking even though it is forbidden, and whether anything can be done about it?

When I was in France and I wanted to see shows from the media counters, I made this possible in two ways:

Way 1 is downloading the shipment with yt-dlp (which can take longer)

Way 2 is to use a ssh proxy of a server in Germany. Of course, not everyone has a Linux server in Germany.

The geoblocking of the TV channels is completely ok. Look at the BNA:

Geoblocking is generally understood to mean a cross-border restriction in general Streaming services.

But: These restrictions apply to audiovisual services not in the scope of the Geoblocking Regulation, but in that of Regulation (EU) 2017/1128 (so-called Portability Regulation).
