Hello, JungerKind!

Also this time I would like to answer your question 😉

Perfectionism can permanently make mentally ill. Often he can also be the wrong way, as he can lead too much to self-criticism, stress and fear.

People like me, who are perfectionist, are setting unrealistic standards that are difficult to achieve. This can lead to a constant feeling of failure even if they are successful in many areas.

In addition, it can inhibit the efficiency and ingenuity, because fear of mistakes leads to the delay in trying out new ideas or taking risks. Instead of making progress, one can be caught in a loop of self-doubts and revision.

Furthermore, perfectionism can often burden interpersonal relations, as perfectionist people face high expectations for themselves and others, which can lead to disappointments and conflicts.

Overall, a healthy approach involving the adoption of errors and imperfections can often lead to more satisfaction and success.

I did this with professional help when I was very mentally hit. I am happy about this and I would like to share my own experiences with the community. I’m not embarrassed.

Thank you for your good question 👍☺️

Perfectionists are extremely self-critical, always tensed and stimulated to improve and never or rarely satisfied with their own performance or performance. Internal calm cannot arise. Whoever puts himself under pressure and stress is at risk of getting sick at some point.

Perfectionism can lead to mental illness. People who fall short of an extreme perfectionism can develop a kind of perfectionism mania in which they are forced to seek faultlessness. This often leads to a high level of stress and promotes diseases such as anxiety disorders, depression or burnout. This mania, constantly trying to be perfect, strains the psyche strongly and can lead to serious mental problems in the long term.

It doesn’t have to. Mania can be psychologically useful when such phases are repeated, but not too long.

If you notice that you have such side effects, you should choose a psychiatrist. Only this one can give you an accurate diagnosis. I myself am a medical person, but with psychology I have a little bit of a hat, and your explanations are too short to make an accurate diagnosis, even for every psychiatrist.

Yes, there are numerous scientific studies on the topic that perfectionism is unhealthy (the well-being can suffer from it), and for example contributes to procrastination.

Can be based on how far the urge to perfection is pronounced.

From a certain point, I can imagine that you’re going to the psyche, yes.

Certainly. Some behaviour, which would be different than perfectionist, is the expression of a forced disease (e.g. Putzzwang, order enforcement, etc.)

You can get mentally ill through everything.
As soon as something creates a dysbalance in your brain, it leads to a “psychic disease”.

As soon as perfectionism triggers a dysbalance, that is, once your obsession interferes with or neglects your other mental needs, it becomes a mental illness.
