Buy a used 25+ year old Honda scooter?

Hi ✌︎ I'd like to buy a scooter for city rides and the occasional 100-200 kilometer ride for fun. A 50cc scooter, since I only have a B license.

I'm not that keen on most newer 4-strokes and found a 1998 Honda Shadow in the classifieds. The seller seems honest but doesn't know much about it. His colleague, however, has been working on the thing.

He wants €800, which seems very fair to me. It runs, starts reliably, but usually only via Kickstarter. It would have to be re-registered.

The catch: The scooter fell over once. The chrome on the handlebars is a bit worn. It has 23,000 km on the clock, but the engine only has 4,000 km on it.

I'm willing to tinker and put a fair amount of frustration and effort into this thing, but I'd appreciate an assessment from someone more familiar with scooters. I've attached a few pictures.

Thanks in advance for your answers 🙂

What could deter me from buying would be an unclear spare part supply.

I’d be able to show up in a quiet minute at a Honda dealer and rattle something about spare parts
