Do the windshield wipers on the airplane also work during flight?

Hi, I was playing Airplane Simulator again recently, and it was raining. So I activated the windshield wipers on my Boeing 737-800. My dad, who was watching, said it was pretty unrealistic since I was flying at 300 knots. I wondered if he was right. Still, I love the realism of this simulator (X-Plane 11).

Yes, of course.

Manufacturers have naturally tested to what speed the wipe keeps and published these values in the a) aircraft manual and b) in the maintenance manual. This is the max. Speed for the A320 according to Airbus at 230 Kt, about 410 km/h.

You need the wipers when flying through heavy rain and all at start and landing.

the windshield wiper is not needed during the flight, as the water is drained directly by the speed, the windshield wiper is only used on the ground

no, moreover, the altitude is clearly above the rain clouds

Yes, they do. However, they are speed-restricted. 300 KIAS should be too much. Our limit is 230kt. It can be used when starting and landing with heavy rain, but above all on the ground.

yes, but you just need the windshield wipers under the clouds because it doesn’t rain over it
