Radio interference. What's causing it?

Hello everyone

I have the following problem. I work part-time for a taxi company in my town. The taxis use a radio system, as is apparently always the case. However, the problem is that whenever a city bus is parked next to them, the radio constantly statics until it goes away. Since people are often parked next to each other at the train station, this happens quite often.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is or how to easily solve it? I assume the city buses also use a radio system, and that's what's causing the disruption.

Thanks for any suggestions for a solution.

If there’s a bus standing next to you, there’s probably a constant data transmission on the bus. And since the antenna is on the bus roof, it has a higher range and makes your radio just crawl.

Without a more precise description of your radio system, it becomes difficult. If it’s about the good old taxi radio, then you won’t have a chance to change anything at the frequency – because they have been assigned to it as operating radio frequencies.

It would be useful: someone from your company who has a little idea of radio technology (maybe someone will install the stuff and possibly repair it) could install a filter to the taxi. To do this, you have to first explore which frequencies the buses send. Then, of course, you have to know the frequency of your FUnksystem. And then you build either a bandpass filter that only allows the frequency of your taxi radio – or use a high-pass or low-pass filter depending on the ratio of the two systems.

However, as these filters usually have to be adjusted so that they do not accidentally suppress your system, a specialist should actually take care of it here – that is, a proper radio workshop.

Please join the bus operator for this. As a rule, there is a workshop and also someone who knows at least that an antenna is not in the ear or nose;-)

If you don’t find anyone else, you might be able to help the FUnkwerkstatt of the professional firefighter or even the police. There, people who know what the system has.

If nothing helps, you may also use the radio interference measurement service of the Federal Network Agency. Even city buses must not interfere with other radio systems.

Can you change the frequency of the transmitter?
