Driving license AM / A1…?

I'd like to ride a scooter that goes faster than 45 km/h. But I don't feel like riding a big motorcycle where I have to shift gears at driving school. But I need at least an A1 license for that. Is there a way, or do I have to go through the process?

Which class would you take?

And is it somehow stupid or useless to get a motorcycle license in order to then drive a scooter at higher km/h?

The fact that driving schools hold vehicles of the A1 class with automatic transmission is rather rare, as it would not be quite harmless for most riders to acquire the driver’s license on automatic and then drive with gear, since most vehicles of this class are equipped with manual transmissions. There is an appropriate safety awareness in the professional group.

For your specific concern, you can talk to the driving school of your choice if they offer training with your vehicle (if you already own a vehicle and this corresponds to the conditions set out in Appendix 7 FeV).

Dumb is the thought only if you have no use for it.

This is not a big problem, because they are not allowed to drive gears anyway.

That’s true, of course. The licence shall be limited by the authority.

There are also certain driving schools which, as an A1 steering wheel for driving training, should also have an alternative 125 ccm automatic scooter. The practical test is usually carried out with the motor vehicle.
