Private sector or public service?
Good morning!
I recently spoke with a police career counselor and found it very interesting, as I myself would have the opportunity to directly enter the higher service and then go either to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA)/State Criminal Police Office (LKA) or the regular police force. I find the leadership roles particularly interesting, as well as the variety they offer.
On the other hand, I would also have the opportunity to pursue an attractive career in the private sector. This is possible thanks to my parents' contacts, and I would also have some management responsibility.
Both sound very interesting to me; I could definitely imagine it. I then looked into the fixed pay scales for employees in the higher service, anything from 13 hours upwards. The salaries are okay, but not comparable to those in the private sector (even if there are fewer deductions). Is a B-grade salary in the police/BKA even possible?
My "problem" is that I also come from a wealthy family and therefore pursue an upscale lifestyle. Is such a lifestyle possible with salaries like these (A13-16)?
What are the pros and cons of working for the police? Would you recommend the police/BKA/LKA or the private sector?
Thank you!
So you want to decide what Master’s degree programme you want to enroll. To get up into the A13 – it should definitely be a university. Regardless of the subject.
No matter what the Karrie consultant told you, I would look at specific job offers or career training.
BKA – Your servant is the covenant, place of service after termination?, place of my knowledge only with exchange partner.

LKA or police – your servant is the country.
A B instinct – which I would at least not be able to calculate with or only at a later time. Is reserved for the Direkor as Head of Service. But I don’t know the police structure. A leading position as a “farmer” – I think it would be a good thing
You’re comparing the career of public service with hired lawyer. Ggfs eventually take over a firm as a successor. I’m so sorry.
Then the salary is the one, the number of hours, the working time is another topic.
In the end, it is your decision: to represent the criminals or to support the arrest. If you as a lawyer do not have to see your focus in criminal law;)
And in public service independent work – only conditional. Someone is always authoritative to you here, who then also tells you what is urgent to process.
Thank you for the answer! If I’m honest, I’m standing before choosing the bachelor and/or master. Depends on the degree. Yes, Jura is the plan or Bachelor of laws…
The consultant told me about Master who ends in the Criminal Council candidate. That sounded extremely interesting and there you already have a few leadership tasks ahead of you and when I talked to a former police director, I found that even better 😅
So, yes, either Jura or then in the direction of Kriminalrat.
In the economy, I would either want to practice as a lawyer or then take over the company in the family. Salaries are equal to zero. But I would work 50-60 hours in the economy. It’s not always nice.
But it both forms my passion and clearly shows my interests. It doesn’t make it easier 😂. I’m much more important than salary, but at points the jobs go quite parallel. That’s the thing. Therefore, I still care about salary and some other things…A13 to A16 are not bad, but zero comparable to that of the economy
I hope you understood. It’s a goggle for me. My parents would support both of them.
I can tell you that you would start with a Bachelor – at least with me not in the A13 and also not necessarily reach as a goal (technical administration).
Access A9 or A10. At least with me in the police service, I realized that you might be waiting for a long time for a promotion – depending on the assessment and number of competitors in the group. But other countries, other rules, other approach in the household.
With good luck, you might find your federal state’s budget online, whether you understand it as an external one – I don’t know.
A tip – I would have to be able to assess you personally. For the public service you have to bring some patience – there is never something immediately and any thought that is so good for changes or improvement needs perseverance. Only the stete drop hollows the stone;).
We have recently set up a full lawyer in the EC 13, before it was a syndicate lawyer and briefly independent. She now enjoys her free time and has more time for her publishing child.
Many paths lead to the goal – only the official course is also bound to your age. One out there gets easier than one in there later.
Thank you. I understand everything very well. But I would first study Bachelor and Master and then this here: https://www.karriere.bka.de/Karriereportal/DE/Jobs/BerufenBeimBKA/Kriminalratanwaerter/kriminalratanwaerter_node.html
This means that you are only 3 years of lawyers and then already criminals in the higher service. That was shown to me
I’d rather depend on your personal requirements and skills. When entering the higher service, you already need a completed study. What did you study? Do you have to be the most probable law for LKA / BKA? There is still something in the field of computer science, and I know that they are only active in the higher service. With Jura you would definitely be able to earn more in the free economy, with many other courses but also under A13. But other things would be more important to me than just looking at the salary.
Jura is the target, yes
Otherwise, criminal commissioners would still be a way and then in the master with the one. But I would have to reorientate myself 😂, not the best.
Yes, as a lawyer I would earn significantly more
I am very important. But there both go a little parallel and have for example leadership responsibility, change, work independently, cover interests, etc
At an authority, you’re always undermining an extreme bureaucracy, and I don’t think that this will change great for the next decades. I am in the public service myself, worked at the judiciary and would like to see more innovative structures, as I have already known them in the free economy. Nevertheless, there are also interesting areas of work in the ÖD and safety is and does not remain an unimportant argument. But you still have time – to put a very good law degree is not without – at your place I would then complete internships in all possible areas in your studies.
Yes internships are so or so on the agenda 😂, I have not yet begun to study. Just to the info. The path will soon decide and I would then choose the university. So the question here
I could also introduce myself to the Crimean Council, but that’s just something else…but cool 😅. It’s very hard to decide. The salary is about stubbornly low
Sounds like you have a good back cover with your parents. In your place, I would choose the public service to be more independent. If you notice it’s not your case, you can still enter the free economy. Such a piece of public service is always good in the CV.
Okay, thanks. Yes, through my parents I have good chances and I’ll inherit well, even though hopefully this will take a very long time 😅
Well, if you have German parents, you can do both. The public service has now also undergone strong brown, which is why I left it.
Yes, I have German parents 😂
However, I have the very good opportunity in the economy only once
But you keep the reference forever
I’m in public service. For me, it’s the best I could do. I would never return to the free economy.
Why not?
As an official, you have some privileges. This includes, among other things, the entitlement to a pension 1866€ after 5 years of service. That would certainly be a good thing at age.
If the service doesn’t meet you, you could still go two-track or walk around.
The pension is good, but in my case I would have a better pension 😅
what do you mean with two-handed
In order to receive this amount as a pension, it would be necessary, on the one hand, to make much more time and, on the other hand, to make very high contributions over this period. You make a much better deal with the pension. And the 1866€ is the minimum. This could then be much higher, which is significantly more difficult for the statutory pension.
You could do the other by-time and then work parttime as an official. Besides activity must of course be displayed at the service owner. Or you’re consciously taking a few months off the civil servant’s service and watching the other thing develop.
For example, did a fitness influencer from Saxony before she was completely out of the police service.
I would definitely have more pension through a pension fund and I could earn more in the economy. That’s what I meant.
The one in the economy is a full time job and goes more towards 50-60 hours… so I couldn’t connect both of them. But probably other things, that’s true. This is a good argument
