“Cheeky” positive?

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago I joined a new department as a trainee.

I've become more open now and I get along well with my colleagues, and we joke around regularly.

Now someone I get along well with called me “bor you’re so cheeky hahah” or “you cheeky bastard” and laughed while doing it.
Did he mean that in a positive way? How can we understand that?
I tend to associate "cheeky" with something negative. Like a naughty child, for example.

As I said, we joke around regularly and we haven't had any bad relationships yet.
