French programming language?
Good evening,
I was just wondering if there is a programming language that consists of French syntax rather than English. My goal here isn't to use it in a production environment, but rather to practice the French language.
Kind regards, Codeline

Thank you
I have doubts that the use of French terms in programming contributes significantly to improving language skills.
Theoretically, you could define a French-language wrapper function for almost any method/constante/variable.
For operators (if, then, else, for, while, new …etc), only a preprocessor/transpiler would be necessary which translates French terms into the respective standard before compiling.
In the 1990s there were various attempts to “basteln” any “national” variants of programming languages.
If you want to learn a language, the “Kauderwelsch” of a programming language is certainly not suitable for consolidating grammatical/orthographic subtleties.
…not with the programming language as such…
My English has developed through the reading of documentation and explanations, as well as communication with global partners. This would, however, be limited to “Chinese” without real private contacts, beyond technical communication.
The real learning of languages is based on quite normal themes away from “Programming” and could also come into play on other topics such as stringwood collection.
If you restrict the vocabulary of a language only to the limited extent of a subject, you do not learn the language…
… Then you’re stealing Birmingham with the baker and can’t even say what you’re hungry for. 😅
If you want to learn French, beat Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables” in your head… maybe the daily newspapers, Le Monde, Le Figaro…
And look for real conversation partners for ordinary chatting.
Hello Erzesel,
Thanks for the tips at the end of the answer.
I am not looking for a French programming language to use this as the only medium for a foreign language. The goal is to integrate the language into everyday life and become “more normal” by using a small software project or the like.

That’s not how you learn sensible frz. Vocabulary or sentences. Isn’t there somehow Tin Tin, Asterix, etc. as frz. Book or film?

I agree with you and it only serves the purpose of connecting the language to a hobby (generally related to all GF users). Of course, a programming language should not be the only learning medium for a language. Nevertheless, many can confirm that their own English has improved by working with a programming language.
