Questions about Buddha's story?

Dear Buddhists at ,

Please be so kind and teach me a small part of Buddha's life.

What I know – and what I don't know.

Buddha was born of a virgin and came into the world in an Asian temple, magnificent and majestic, surrounded by beautiful maidens in silk, good food and drink, good, noble company, and royal clothing. Suffering and pain did not dwell with him. Only his childlike smile remained with him.

Buddha always lived in the temple and knew only the temple there, until he reached an age where he left it – and what he saw filled his eyes with tears and he realized there:

Life is suffering!

He went out into the field and forest and sank down in sheer despair under a tree, 🌳 where he pondered there!

The suffering in his country almost broke his heart; and Buddha decided to meditate under his tree without eating or drinking, without moving, without perceiving a single unimportant thing, until he had found the solution to the riddle of suffering.

He meditated three times for 30 days…then the forest birds came to him as he sat there motionless, and fed him seeds, insects, and seedlings, and watered him with fresh rainwater and the shimmering red dewdrops on the shimmering leaves of a sweet young strawberry plant. They also fed Buddha this!

He meditated for 560 days, 23 hours, 11 minutes…

At first, he saw the most beautiful beings in Asia, but they found themselves in danger, distress, and tribulation! Buddha questioned the people, but they rejected him and didn't recognize him. He saw his entire life under this tree 🌳, where the birds came and fed and watered him. The brighter, more beautiful, and more perfect the forms became, the more hideous, terrifying, and satanic the "sub-forms" became! It is a place of one's own! Into the heart! Where heartland is! And there is only light and shadow in equal measure!

When Buddha awoke from meditation, he realized that 5 years, nine months, and 30 days had already passed!

And the conclusion is:

Self-knowledge is the middle path that balances all the ups and downs, creating a glorious peace that no longer allows any injustice!

My questions are:

Was the tree an ash? Or was it an elm? Or was it an oak under which the Buddha meditated?

Or was it a different tree 🌳? If so, what is the name of the tree under which Buddha sat and meditated?……..

The birds 🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦 that Buddha fed with insects and their larvae, with seeds and grains, as well as small pieces of strawberry and plum fruit.

What kind of birds 🐦 were those that Buddha fed? Were they crows? Were they sparrows? Were they pigeons?…

These two questions printed in BOLD are what I am personally concerned with in this question with the above question title!

Thank you in advance for your professional answer on the topic of Buddhism!

Kind regards,

Moonchild1972

Hello moon child. As some remarked here, this “history of the Buddha” exists mostly from legends and mythswho only after his death served to smash him and his life.

I’ll give you some games.

  • Buddha was a virgin birth” = No. According to legend, his mother should have had a dream in his conception in which a “white elephant entered her side”… That is why the future Buddha, that is, her unborn child, has not been “familiarly witnessed”.
  • Buddha lived in the temple at all times and only knew the temple…” = This is also a myth. Buddha himself told himself that he grew up in wealth and luxury. But, the story with the “Vier Ausfahr”, where he was supposed to come into contact with age, illness and death for the first time, he did not tell of himself, but of a (also mythical) Buddha of a “premature” (Vipassi ).
  • He meditated 3 times 30 days…” = No, he went over 6 years to three different masters in “teach”, but left them because he could not learn from them what he was looking for: the final liberation from suffering.
  • Buddha asked in the people, but they cast him away and did not recognize him… = what this sentence should mean, I do not understand. Buddha met his former companions after his awakening under the bodhi tree. But they didn’t want to talk to him first, because they thought he was “departed from the way”, weakened because he had broken his long, extreme ascesis just before the starvation death…
  • The brighter, more beautiful and more perfect the shapes became, the more burial, horrifying and satanic the “subfigures” became! It’s your own! To the heart! Where heartland is! And there is only light and shadow alike!” = That reminds me (at most ) of the legend of “Mara” (the “conductor” ), who tried to stop Buddha from enlightenment, “demmons” etc., to scare him (?)
  • Buddha realized when he awakened from meditation that 5 years, nine months and 30 days are already around!” = As long as Buddha did NOT sit under the bodhi tree!

I don’t know a story about any birds. So it doesn’t matter what birds are supposed to be in the LEGEND.

I’ll introduce you 3 videos ( audios) that deal more closely with the life story of the Buddha:

1:Buddha, his life soon” (a notebook chapter, 38 minutes ):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K49fvADu_mY

Contents: – The Four Signs – The Excerpt – “Distorting the Air” – The great awakening – After enlightenment – the spread of the Dharma (that is the teaching of the Buddha) – The final Nirvana – The legacy of the Buddha.

2:The life of the Buddha” (a lecture, 54 minutes ):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK0YTNCgfXM

Content: 1. Introduction, 2. The problem with the data situation, 3. The cultural environment of the Buddha, 4. The young years of the Buddha – Seal and Expected Truth5. Excerpt into homelessness and the first years of wandering, 6. The enlightenment of the Buddha, 7. Beginning of teaching – not always successful, 8th refinement of teaching skills and early community, 9th The main disciples of the Buddha, 10th pleas, 11th foundation of the nunnery, 12. The late years and the end, 13th dispute over the relics and first Council, 14. Dharmic aspects in the life of the Buddha (i.e. also your question: “What does the life of the Buddha have to do with his teaching/”the Buddhism”?

3: “Buddha’s life and its meaning for us today” (representation, 49 minutes, in which there is also a lot to be told about teaching):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHsDtVyUOBM

If you really want to learn more about teaching, and above all about the practice of Buddhism (because practice is at the forefront), you can ask questions. A “overview” about whole But no one can give you teaching here. That would be too complex…

I’m not home by the middle of next week.

But, on my channel (from which the videos come up) you will find more than two thousand other videos about Buddhism and individual aspects of teaching, as well as various forms of meditation.

In the playlist alone (only one of about 150 ) “What is Buddhism?” find 177 videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnDHJhxnunFEeXlvz-JeNCtFMGr0E949

If you like, you can ask questions there under a video. I usually answer questions twice a week. Just, as I said, I am on the way until Friday 15.10. and can answer very short questions at most.

Greetings, and much joy in uncovering and listening: Manu 😊

Dear moon child, please don’t be mad at me now, but where “for heaven’s sake” do you have your knowledge about Buddha? Honestly, my first impression was “someone wants us to “vera…en”.

Forget your two questions – these are so secondary in comparison to your remaining text that they can absolutely nothing contribute to a solid view.

Knowing nothing is better than knowing something wrong.

Buddha Siddharta Gautama = “Indian Buddhism” My personal experiences (contacts) refer to “Thai Buddhism”. That’s as odd as when I’m Kath. (Pfarrer) with Evan. (Pastor) and other doctrines on similarities or Inconsistencies investigate.

The fact (persoensual experiences, sprouts with moenches) is however that a moench can study in an Indian temple (even Hindu temples) to then practice in a Thai(Buddha) temple. In other faiths (religions, churches) simply impossibly. This is just a reason why I love Buddhism.

  • I didn’t want to crawl anyone, or even provoke

Don’t worry, I really didn’t understand it – so I spoke explicitly “from first Impression.

  • How could you discuss or define Gautama Buddha’s teaching in 10 short sentences?

Schmunzel: So much does not need it, he himself formulated “Do the good, leave evil”.

Of course, even less helpful one could hardly answer, but to expect the result of Buddha’s 40-year teaching to be summarized in 10 sentences – again I must ask for forgiveness for the (not guilty) expression – simply naive. The past more than two thousand years have done a rest to disfigure their original doctrine almost as far as unmistakable.

There is nothing left to our hypocrites than to record, test and weigh everything first (almost) and then to use the custom. Buddha portrayed it in such a way that a successor who wants to switch from the unsure shore of a river to the other, safe side, collects tree trunks, branches, lilies and creates a portable fin from it to translate.

Nevertheless: Personally, I find the book of Hellmuth Hecker (The life of the Buddha) helpful as an entry.

  • What does Buddhism really have to do with Siddharta Gautama Buddha?

Siddhartha Gautama is considered our historical Buddha (the Buddha “our” age and is the founder of the doctrine we call Buddhism today.

  • Is this the doctrine of the only true Buddha?

Jein – in the course of the world age, there have already been several such beings that came to the same (agreing) knowledge. “Our” Buddha will not be the last.

This has now been referred quite generally to the fact that one should not believe everything unaudited. Truth is universal, there is no specific Buddhist truth. Or should there be different laws of gravity for Catholic and evangelical?

It wasn’t really serious. Master “…” would have asked an applicant who replied with “yes” to withdraw, because “a deliberate blind person should not hope to recognize the truth”.

Applies now – albeit somewhat confused – for your last two comments:

  • a separate, specific, technical response via Anthroposophy write and what the Rudolf Steiner in detail has

Don’t you think that this is almost a life task?

  • Would you do that for me [also] do???????

Certainly, from the questions answered by me (see my profile) in the course of time, you can see that I like to help and – as I mean – answer to any directly asked question, even if a certain time should pass, as I am neither constantly nor regularly online.

Dissertations are – I must admit – but not. However, your question seems important and noteworthy to me, so that I will really try to deal with it. But so much is already said: in contrast to a sweet form, there will be only a few bones thrown down.

  • that you reveal to me the secret of Buddhism.

Sorry, there’s no secret. Buddha has kept nothing (which is important) from his findings. However, this does not mean that everything is so easy to understand.

Allow me a question: Why are you so interested in Buddhism?

  • You do not fall to the burden

Oh, where, no one has done that yet, it is so that I can learn something even with every question.

  • to become her most ambitious and best pupil

And that (“student”) in the age of gender 😉! And now I have to disappoint you very much: I am neither a teacher, a guru, a lecturer, an author or a member of the Order (Mönch), but a laie who exchanges with others.

Neither am I a missionary, because the Dalai Lama persistently refuses to pay me a top premium for any converts delivered 😉

Still interested? Then I should ask a question that I snapped up from the environment of chan Buddhism: Are you really and truly willing to believe everything I tell you unaudited and to be true?

Hello!

This is a very nice interpretation of history. And the “real” data is no less surprising.

But the prince was born as a man and the prince was also his father. But the signs of birth were miraculous. The mother Maja was traveling when suddenly the descent announced. Then they bowed down the trees and gave their hold and protection. And without pain, the Buddha escaped. He then ran a few steps and it blossomed lotus flowers at every point, as his feet touched the ground.

Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about birds and 5 years of meditation.

I can’t answer the second question, but the first one. The tree has different names. Sometimes he gets Bodhi tree called, sometimes Assatha tree & falsely he often becomes as Knäckebrot tree denotes. According to the evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins he belongs to the genus of fig trees & bears the Latin title Ficus Religiosa.

Jesus! I had not read such a version of Buddha’s life. That sounds like fairy tales. With information sources to be taken seriously, something is quite different.
If you want to learn the most important about Buddha’s life and Buddhism in an entertaining way, I recommend the book “How Siddhartha became Buddha“. This book is based on authentic traditions and was written by a world-famous Zen master. It describes the life story of Buddha until his death, his most important life stations and teaching speeches. One learns the most essential of Buddha’s teaching. I have the book myself, it is really easy to read, entertaining and very informative.

You will mean with Buddha Siddharta Gautama. And he meditated under a poplar fig. And he fed grove stars. To answer your two main questions. A plant and a bird species that we do not have. He came from the present territory of Nepal and lived mainly in northern India, where the countries were not so divided at that time.

  1. According to some legends, Buddha’s “illumination” took place under a “Bodhi” tree.
  2. Vesakh or ‘the day Buddhas“ will be Buddhist/-entered worldwide. the Release of Birds are part of this custom. Since this custom is usually referred to as the “scratch” bird, I assume that the Buddha has swept sparrows, as there is a certain degree of truth in every legend. (PS: this is my persuasive guess, conclusion).

Under a bodhi tree, Buddha got enlightenment.

Because I know Buddha’s story differently, I don’t know about feeding birds.

I had read 2 books about Buddha 15 years ago.

Googlet now.

It was located in the Kingdom of Magadha, about 90 km south of Pataliputra, where Siddhartha Gautama was around 534 BC. under a poplar cage (Bodhi-Species) the enlightenment (bodhi).
