Question for anyone who has ever worked part-time 20 hours a week in retail while studying or doing something similar?

Was the pay good, and was it worth it? I've heard a lot of bad things about working in retail, but on the other hand, it's a good opportunity to earn money.

You get jobs in retail quite simply, even without training. This is why they are also quite frequent secondary jobs for students.

But because one does not necessarily need training there and therefore many people are potentially eligible for it as employees, these jobs are not paid so well – minimum wage and perhaps a little bit about it, I think Lidl is quite far ahead with 14 euros.

It is also often the case that employees are not necessarily well-treated and so many superiors do not necessarily consider the laws valid for themselves. For example, if it is required that the cash billing or the clearing up after business closure are not listed as working time.

But do you have alternatives? If so, what?

Well, what exactly are you looking for and what exactly do you bring?

You will have to get used to the idea that you will not find a high payment, or somehow very optimal conditions in jobs, as long as you are not a sought-after and experienced specialist. This is how the labour market is. And you just have to do that if you want to make some money before reaching such a conclusion.

They won’t hurt you. What you need is a professional qualification. Otherwise, it’s up to jobs you can do without such a thing. And they are all not absolutely great in their own way. In addition to retail, catering would be a classic.

Don’t you want to get the study out quickly? Bafög and spend less time earning money?

This is what I only know from fellow students who have already worked a lot for the Master in the Diploma, so that they were able to make almost half the Master’s degree and work in the other half of the time.

In the lecture-free period one often has exams, block courses, etc., so don’t guess how much time you have to work in the year.

As a student of a full-time school, IMHO is likely to be difficult with 20h/week despite holidays.
