Found a swift, what to do?

Hello, my cat brought me a swift. It doesn't look particularly young either; see the pictures below.

The little one is uninjured, but appears very weak. It turns its head and looks back and forth a bit, but then quickly closes its eyes and rests. It doesn't even attempt to fly.

As NABU described, I first put it in a dark box. Does anyone know of any rescue centers in Saxony/Central Saxony? What should I do now?

Please don’t feed anything first and don’t give anything to drink!

On Facebook there are the groups of wild bird aid emergencies and masonry sailors emergencies, please contact these two groups quickly.

Experts can then tell you whether intervention is necessary or not, they can give you further instructions and can provide the bird with a care center, call other suitable places for the bird or call a veterinarian in charge if necessary (not every veterinarian knows about wild birds, so it is important that the bird is brought to a veterinarian in charge if necessary).

First you have to make an application request, write that it is an emergency. And then, after the request has been accepted, you can post a post in the group. Write the facts about how the bird goes if you have already given him something to feed/trink, which also write to it, etc. Post one or more pictures of the bird and also a picture of the feather (if available).

If you don’t have a Facebook and you don’t want to sign up there, please post a post in these Facebook groups (family, friends, acquaintances, classmate, work mate, neighbor, …), this person can then forward the information to you.

Don’t feed anything (and don’t give anything to drink!) until you get more information about it in the groups. It is important that the bird gets the right food, also other very important things to consider when feeding.

You really have to consider a lot so you don’t harm a wild bird. On the Internet or elsewhere you often get false information that can be harmful or even fatal to the bird.

The care of masonry is very special and belong exclusively to professional hands.

So turn to the above-mentioned Facebook groups, there is told by experts what to do or not to do.

An important information: In cat contact, the bird needs antibiotics quickly. Therefore, immediately this morning in the two above-mentioned Facebook groups, please make an application request and post a post. Definitely write that the bird had cat contact. Ask for veterinarians in the area, there he must be brought quickly. If you don’t have the chance to bring him there, there might be someone else in your area you could ask. Otherwise, there might be someone in the group who plays animal tax or they can call you other ideas/possibilities.

Here is a document about Wallets from the Facebook group Wild bird aid emergencies:

You shouldn’t have touched or taken the bird.

Do nothing in such situations and let the nature of things run freely.

Leave the animal alone and remove yourself.

Don’t watch the bird so you don’t scare the looking birds.

Every human intervention only harms nature.

Even though it may not seem at first glance.

Man needs nature.

Conversely, nature hardly needs people.

Please note carefully the basic principles of human hygiene.

Wild animals can always also transfer diseases to humans.

If people, without possessing the expertise, take wild birds or carry out breeding attempts, this is a massive violation of the German animal welfare law.

Best regards

A wall sailor does not come up from the ground without help. So he needs the help of man.

A wall sailor on the ground always has a big problem.

So what? What does this have to do with it? If you want to help nature, this requires expertise, but no sense of feeling.

The animal was taken by the cat! If the bird is hurt, you should help and give a chance! I even mean that wall sailors are under nature protection.

For the whole Doofen:

Bird protection!
There are competent collecting stations for masonry sailors.

Ask a local vet or the nabu. They know where the next fishing station is.

Absolutely bringing to a catching station that knows how to go with masons!

The leaping of these birds is demanding.

Please don’t try to throw the wall sailor in the air that he’s flying again. It doesn’t work. He’ll crash again!

One of us flew into the window. The cause was, as the specialist found out, that he had to have been attacked by a picking bird. He lacked the most important feathers for flying.

There was a long time in the collecting station.

Call there, they can give you tips and maybe they also have an address in your area

Leave overnight in the box, remember water.

Tomorrow, see if he wants to fly again, if not call the animal welfare or the next veterinarian, there you get information about how to proceed.

You could try it with a catching station for exotic birds, maybe you can help yourself out

Now a masonry sailor is not an exote. I think I’m gonna have a normal wildlife station.
