You can learn and maybe you have a talent to photograph.

Most objects are horizontally aligned, so the horizon comes and therefore the orientation of the camera must also be horizontal, except for people, but also not in general. And then there is the subject of art, there is actually everything allowed and that is also good.

But please do not expose the world vertically, just as the 99% of the “handy photographers” do, because without the smartphone they have no ambitions for photography.

For the beginning read something: https://lfd-bw.de/thema-bildgestaltung-ii

the quality of the handies is pretty good. Mobile phone cameras do not have as many manual adjustment options as aperture, iso, exposure time.

And the cell phone cameras also have quite a lot of automatic improvements and help.

ABER

a good photo is not dependent on technology. And there you can really start with the phone to even think about compositions etc and practice there.

In addition, there are also photo apps that open up some possibilities that you also have on a DSLR.

All that has to do with image design, image layout, etc., you can logically also do with the phone.

A bit more difficult but still not impossible to learn the correlations of the exposure triangle (Blende, Iso, exposure time).

There are now even beginners photo courses that have specialized in smartphone photography, look at the Volkshochschule.

On the other hand, as far as the optical possibilities of the tiny camera installed in the smartphone are concerned, you will quickly reach your limits when you start to get better.

All in all, your mother’s suggestion is pretty good. Just start…

In the case of a mobile phone, you are technically very limited. The image sensor is tiny, the objective is small and the focal length is microscopically small. This eliminates the effects and possibilities of a normal camera or must be complicated by software and not very well simulated/implemented.

You can easily google the relationships between the shutter time, aperture and ISO value as well as their influences on the depth of the field. There are enough vivid websites that explain this.

For the beginning a graphic of me:

Technical exposure should be correct, but this is not image design. It is important that you get to get motifs “correct” in the photo frame when you go with horizontal orientation, the exposure can take place automatically and a smartphone optimized in general for display on a smartphone display, on a 4K screen you are more disappointed by the quality of the images.

Right. I didn’t write anything about the image design or choice of motifs, because it’s hard to do with the device. The question was about the GERMAN.

It’s about being able to take good photos with the HANDY as long as you don’t have a camera. It’s a device question. And you should explain that a phone is only limited for good photos.

… I want to start photographing… is probably not an exclusive device question. If you can’t photograph, you don’t use the most expensive devices.

Sure, with the phone you can also photograph well. Find out about the focal length of the lens and check out some tutorials and courses online. There are many with good quality and free.

Turn off the automatics. Apply the settings manually. Photographers the same motif with different settings and comparisons the results.

I don’t want you to start anything. No one has ever become a pro who only thinks about how to do something.

Go photograph. With the phone, it’s just pressing a button, so it can’t be that difficult, can it? If you find enthusiasm, then go online and continue to figure out what rules you can observe.

But if you have so little enthusiasm that you don’t start at all, it’ll be nix with the camera.

For the beginning, you can leave everything in the camera app on automatically and only practice how to find a good motive. A good cut is very important. With time you know something beautiful and what can be disturbing. For example, a parked car could be disturbing in a landscape image – if you have a motif, you can try out several angles.
