Flight ticket refund with or without fee deduction?

Hello! A flight booked and paid for in January with Emirates BKK-VIE-BKK was canceled by the airline due to the coronavirus measures. The scheduled departure was at the end of April.

Emirates is now offering me a travel voucher that allows me to rebook free of charge within 12 months.

But I'd rather have my money back. You can also request this online with Emirates using a form, but there's no indication of whether or how much of a fee will be retained. Every attempt to contact the airline ends with a link to the FAQs. There's no email address, no working phone numbers, because the offices are apparently unoccupied.

So, can/may the airline that canceled the flight retain fees if I insist on a refund? Thanks…!

Yeah, no, maybe. It’s in silence right now. And – whether the Emirates, as non-EU lines, agrees to any one that is regulated by law here, is uncertain. Also, whether Emirates does not have to register insolvency.

Since you have signed a contract with an airline from the non-EU territory, our European law does not apply here. And most likely, the EU now also approves the airline’s coupon solution so that they don’t completely bleed out financially. Don’t worry, the voucher keeps its validity.
