Fixed-term employment contract: How to ask if it can be extended?

Good evening,

I have a fixed-term employment contract. The contract was for two years, and I'm now halfway through. I've received a few signals from management here and there that they're happy with me so far. But that's not a guarantee.

I personally would like to stay in this job/with this employer if the opportunity arises. What's the best way to ask the boss? Is it better to approach it subtly and ask cautiously in a roundabout way? Or should I just lay my hand on the table and signal that I'm interested in staying?

And when is a good time for that? Is it too early, after the "halfway point," to "feel ahead"? Or does the maxim apply here: the sooner the better?

Thanks for your assessments/experiences.

It is difficult to judge from outside. But I would just openly ask how he assesses the chance that you will get another extension or an indefinite contract. Then you can adjust for it early.

Press the thumbs.

Then tell them you won’t accept another extension.

Question now soon – you have to dispose…

Either they offer you an indefinite contract within the next 3 months, or you go. Problem: with fixed-term contracts, e.g. no credit or similar. That’s why you can’t accept that anymore.

If they value you as a labor force, they will provide you with an unlimited working relationship.

Don’t let you go!
