Fish pond substrate?
Hello dear community,
I have a current question that I would like to share with you.
What substrate would be suitable for a trout pond?
I'm currently restoring our old pond. It's about 200 square meters and 25 meters long and 8 meters wide.
The pond has a stream inlet and is surrounded by several trees, so that it is mostly in the shade even when the sun is shining.
Currently, the pond is covered in a thick layer of mud (at least 1 meter thick), but it will be dredged soon. However, I'm worried that the pond won't hold water after the dredging. How can I guarantee that the water won't disappear? I also don't know what kind of substrate I should use for the trout pond. Would gravel be the best solution? I hope you can help me.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards, Marlon
I’m going out of it, which is a natural pond.
Then the best ground is a clay layer.
Kies filter the water and is very permeable.
Since the pond has a stream inlet, the water loss does not matter.
He’s fed automatically.
Thank you for your answer.
The brook also has a loam floor, that is, the consecration. I can’t see about all the mud right now. So I should just leave the exposed clay layer or?
Doesn’t that make the consecration gloomy?
I thought the trout somehow needed another ground?
The sludge can be excavated or sucked off. Clearly, the water becomes turbid at first, as the sediment layer is heated, but this is reflected after some time.
When the pond is surrounded by trees, there is a foliage layer in it anyway. Injecting gravel multiplys the disposal costs at the next excavated, but has no advantage. The gravel would be covered again with organic material before autumn.
Every natural water loses water in the soil if it is not filled by groundwater. There is no dense natural pond or lake. The brook fills the pond now and do it in the future.
It is important that someone excavated who has experience with the excavation of ponds and does not just get rid of wild on it. The built-up sludge layer has to be largely out, the grown substrate is touched as little as possible. The excavator serves only to reset the natural landing process at certain intervals.
Thank you for your help.
Can you feel that with the excavator?
So if the mud layer ends?
I’d be interested myself because I wanted to do the excavator myself. But, of course, if that’s not possible, I’ll let someone come.
