I often rent movies from Amazon, which I watch on my HP Elitebook 840 laptop. I just realized that they're also available in SD, which could save me some money.
Do you think SD is sufficient for my needs? Does it really make a big difference?

At SD, the resolution is slightly lower. This was still standard a few years ago, but today one has often become used to HD and then SD is no longer so beautiful, even against the background that screens are becoming increasingly high-resolution and sometimes even bigger.
Since you only want to watch it on your laptop and not on a large TV, it is possible. the difference for you not so serious.
My tip: Try it in SD with a movie. And if it bothers you too much, you take the next one back in HD.
